What are the causes of Scoliosis?

Most cases of scoliosis are Idiopathic (no known cause) and develops during adolescence (ages 9-14) and occurs & progresses more in females. Congenital means that it is hereditary and starts at birth, Neuromuscular means it is caused by other diseases & conditions & Degenerative means that it occurs due to injury, previous surgery or general degeneration (old age).

20% are congenital, neuromuscular or degenerative and 80% are idiopathic (unknown cause).

Schroth Method is physiotherapeautic treatment system that uses isometric exercises to strengthen or lengthen certain muscles. Ultimately, the goal is to either “push” or “pull” the spinal curvature back in normal range by using your own muscles.  Additionally, Physical Therapy for Scoliosis dramatically reduces the pain, appearance of scoliosis and increases the physical abilities of the patient.
